Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 29, 2026
Meeting Spot is a local activity network for adults 18 and over. It helps you find people nearby who share your interests and make simple, real-world plans. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect only what the service needs, we do not sell your personal information, and we do not use advertising networks or an engagement feed.
Who we are
Information we collect
- Account & age. An email address or phone number to sign in, and your date of birth or age confirmation, used solely to verify you are 18+ and to secure your account.
- Profile. Your display name, optional bio, interests, and an optional profile photo. Photos are processed to remove embedded location (EXIF) metadata before storage.
- Location. A coarse, city-level area to power nearby discovery, and — only when you host or join a specific plan — the plan’s precise meeting point. See “How location works” below.
- Activity. Groups you join, plans you create or RSVP to, check-ins, and single-level comments inside a plan. There is no public feed.
- Safety. Reports and blocks you submit, and records needed to keep the community safe and enforce our rules.
- Device & notifications. A push notification token (if you enable notifications) and basic technical data needed to deliver and secure the service.
How location works (and stays private)
- Only a coarse, city-level area is ever visible to other members for discovery. We do not publish your precise or live location.
- A plan’s precise meeting point is shared only with confirmed attendees, and only around the time of that plan.
- You control location sharing through your device settings and in-app privacy controls.
How we use your information
- To provide discovery ranked by shared interests, proximity, and timing.
- To create, join, and coordinate plans, and to record check-ins.
- To keep the community safe: verification, reporting, blocking (blocking is instant and mutual), and moderation.
- To enforce our 18+ requirement and our community rules.
- To send notifications you’ve chosen to receive, honoring your preferences and quiet hours.
- To secure accounts, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
How information is shared
- With other members, according to your privacy settings — for example, your coarse area and profile for discovery, and a plan’s precise location with its confirmed attendees.
- With service providers who host and operate the service on our behalf (for example, our cloud database and push-notification providers), under agreements that limit their use of the data to providing those services.
- For legal and safety reasons, when we believe in good faith it is necessary to comply with the law or protect people from harm.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can delete your account yourself at any time, in either of two ways:
- In the app: open Me → Delete account.
- On the web: visit https://meetingspot.com/account/delete and sign in with your account email.
Deleting your account removes your profile (where past activity remains, your name is shown as “Former member”), cancels your upcoming hosted Meeting Spots, releases your RSVPs, and deletes your sign-in identity and email address. Some records may be retained where required for legal, security, or safety reasons (for example, records of serious safety reports). You can also contact us at the address below with any deletion request or question.
Your choices & rights
- Access, correct, or update your profile information in the app.
- Control location, notification, and privacy settings.
- Block or report other members at any time.
- Request a copy of your data or delete your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. We honor those rights; contact us to exercise them.
